Chicago Warming Stripes

Every year on June 21st, University of Reading encourages everyone to share their “warming stripes.” These are a visual representation of how temperatures have increased around the world since the 1850s. 

We are sharing our stripes because climate change is affecting us locally in Chicagoland. The need to address climate change has never been so urgent, as the warmest year on record was 2024! 

So, how are we helping? Accelerate is empowering the next generation of youth through our Building Leadership Around Sustainable Transformation (BLAST) programs, which include internships, volunteering, and the BLAST competition. We are also bringing clean, low-cost electricity to DuPage County through our work with Green Energy Justice Cooperative (GEJC), a community-owned solar cooperative. 

Becca, one of our climate action interns, says, “I think it is a great visual to help people see how drastic the change is, and just how much the temperature has already risen locally. I am glad to be doing something to combat this change at Accelerate Climate Solutions.”
