Solomon Islands Project

Accelerate Climate Solutions has partnered with St. Nicholas School in Honiara, Solomon Islands to help build climate leaders in a country at the frontlines of climate change. By sharing experiences across the globe, young leaders are inspired to action.

Solomon Islands Poetry

During the summer of 2025, Accelerate Climate Solutions worked with interns both locally and in the Solomon Islands, a country on the frontlines of climate change. On both sides of the globe, we tasked students with gathering stories from elders about the changing climate. Shirleen and Kurt, both created poems sharing their stories and their worries about the community's vulnerability to climate change.

Conversations around climate change often frame youth as
the primary voices of concern and activism, while older
generations are depicted as indifferent or resistant to change.
This generational divide, however, overlooks both the lived
experiences of elders and the shared anxieties of people across
generations and locations. This white paper challenges that
narrative by comparing climate perspectives in two regions: the
Solomon Islands and the United States’s Midwest.
