We have a baker’s dozen of summer paid interns this year, and they are already hard at work! This week, we’ll be introducing you to all the work that our students are doing. First up is the morning team!

Our morning team is creating a print and live presentation named “The World We Inherit: A Climate Gallery.” This event is an interactive art gallery and an online magazine. Using stories gathered from interviews, students will showcase art and essays about how the climate has changed in the past few generations. Some of these stories are coming from as far away as the Solomon Islands! Intern Dani says “I particularly enjoy seeing all the pictures sent by the Solomon Islands students. It’s a constant reminder of what we’re advocating to protect when we go to work each day.”

Students are also creating a presentation for civic leaders and community members at the NEST (Naperville Environmental Sustainability Task Force) meeting, which will be held on Monday, July 21st. Everyone is welcome to attend! The presentation is titled, “Planet Earth’s Future: Student Voices on Climate Change.” Our interns will share important climate change information, as well as opportunities to get involved locally and upcoming events, including the Youth Climate Justice Summit.
These projects are great learning opportunities. Shaye, one of our interns, says she’s "learning how to organize people, energy, and ideas around a shared purpose. It’s a skill I know I’ll use in any leadership role I take on."
Stay tuned to read what the afternoon team is doing!
